Critical Mass spreadsheet

Arts writing in Australia can be really exclusive, and often when you question it, people will just say that they don’t know any blind theatre critics, or Blak music reviewers, or queer women writing about games, or where to find them.

So in 2020, I created a spreadsheet to help artists, venues, publicists and commissioning editors access a wider pool of critics and arts writers. You can search or filter by genre, format, location and identity, with quick links to each critic’s portfolio and socials. It’s the resource I wanted when I was a reviews editor assigning dozens of reviews each month.

You can view the spreadsheet here (the first tab is critics, the second is editors).

It’s not a curated list, so anyone can add themselves.

Are you a critic? Add your details via this Google Form, and check out the second tab to find places to pitch.

Are you an editor? Pop your contact details, pitch guidelines, and pay rates in here. I really hope the pay transparency also helps staff and freelancers push for better rates.
